Brax House

Overlooking the river, our unique office building dates back to 1813. It was built as housing for workers at the porter brewery. From the 70-ies it has been used as office and from the 90-ies for shipping. Gothenburg Chartering and Crewchart are previous tenants. We have been residents here since May 2008.

History of Klippan

The area of Klippan was the first Port of Gothenburg as the river was too shallow for larger vessels. It was defended by the Old Alvsborgs fortress which can be dated back to the 14th Century. The East India Company had its homeport at Klippan in the 18th century. Trading with China it was the largest trading company in Sweden and one of the most profitable of all times. In the beginning of the 18th Century industry found its way to Klippan. The German tradesman Abraham Robert Lorent founded a sugar refinery and a porter brewery. These where purchased at a bankruptcy auction by the 23 year old Scotsman David Carnegie Jr. He developed the area including the building of St Birgitta Church, now the most popular church for weddings in Gothenburg.
 
In the former Est India Company warehouse one of the best fish restaurants in Gothenburg, Sjömagasinet, is situated. The main building of the brewery has been rebuilt to a hotel, Novotel.
